Thank you!!!! Outstanding attendance at Council; City votes NOT to appeal court decision

Hundreds of taxi industry members, current and retired, packed Toronto City Council Chambers today to show support for the motion of the License and Standards Committee to grandfather the Standard Plate.

Two very important things happened at Toronto City Council today, April 2nd.

1) Council voted NOT to appeal the decision of Ontario Superiour Court Justice Stinson, who quashed the section of the new by-law which put a termination date on the Standard Plate. The vote was 37-4.

2) A last-minute amendment to the motion by Denzil Minnan-Wong which would have wrapped the Standard Plate decision up in several other issues was defeated by a vote of 24-17.

You can read the minutes of the meeting including the text of Minnan-Wong's motion here.

THANK YOU to the hundreds of industry members who gave up another day of business to attend this meeting. Industry presence at these meetings sends a very important message to Council. Many attendees are not in great health and it is a great effort for them to attend; thank you.
